Why renovation consultancy matters

It's all about looking beyond the plans and thinking about how the finished home will actually work, feel and flow.

What I look at during a renovation

When I look at plans or build a space in 3D, I often spot things that are easy to miss on paper, a door landing in the middle of the only usable wall, an extra window taking away valuable furniture space, a skylight that could be larger, or a layout that doesn’t quite connect one room to the next.

For me, it’s about looking at how the whole home will feel when you walk through it, the space, the light, the flow, the views, how the outside connects in, where the furniture will sit and how the lighting will work.

You can spend a huge amount on architectural plans and the build itself, but if these decisions aren’t thought through early enough, you can still end up compromising the finished space.

My role is to give you another professional eye on those decisions and help make sure the important details are considered before they become expensive to change.

Looking beyond the plans

When I start looking at a renovation in detail, I’m thinking about much more than whether the rooms technically fit. I’m looking at where the furniture will go, whether a door is taking up the only usable wall, whether a window is really needed, where the light is coming from and how one space connects to the next.

Sometimes a small change such as moving a doorway, enlarging a skylight or opening up a view into another room can make a huge difference to how the whole house feels.

Making the big decisions early

A lot of the important decisions need to be made before the build gets too far. Lighting positions, joinery, furniture layouts, finishes and the way rooms connect can all affect what the builder and other trades need to do.

My role is to help you make those decisions early, so you are not trying to work everything out once work has already started and changes become harder or more expensive.

A professional second opinion

Renovating can feel overwhelming because there are so many decisions to make and so many people involved. Having someone look at the project as a whole can help you feel more confident that the important details have been considered.

I can give you a professional second opinion on your plans, help you make decisions with more confidence and make sure the design works not just on paper, but in real life.

As much or as little involvement as you need

Every client is different. Some want help at key stages and simply need a professional second opinion. Others want more ongoing support throughout the renovation.

I can work in a way that suits you, whether you would like guidance on a few important decisions or support throughout the wider process. The aim is always the same, to help you feel confident, clear and in control, while creating a home that feels considered, practical and beautifully put together.

Ready to move your renovation forward?

If you already have plans in place, or you are at the early stages of an extension or renovation, I can help you review the project and identify the design decisions that need more thought before work progresses.
